Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some of the most common questions we get from parents.  If you can't find what you're looking for, feel free to send us an email or reach out on social media.

When are practices?

Practices are typically held twice a week and each coach will determine the practice schedule for their team.  Some teams must share a single field so coordination between coaches may be required prior to the start of the season.  You may request a specific time, but we cannot guarantee anything as this is up to each coach.

When are games?

Games are typically held on Saturdays and Sundays.  RCYSL's scheduler works with other local leagues to schedule (or re-schedule) games for the season. If a game gets cancelled due to inclement weather, we will do our best to re-schedule.  Occasionally re-scheduled games may be fall on a weeknight.

What equipment do I need to purchase?

Your player's jersey will be covered as part of the registration fee.  Jerseys will be issued to each player prior to the first game and are theirs to keep.  Parents will need to ensure players have a soccer ball, soccer cleats (not football cleats), shin guards, soccer socks (black), shorts (black) and a water bottle.

What size ball do I need?

This depends on your player's age group:

U4 = 3

U6 = 3

U8 = 3

U10 = 4

U12 = 4

U14 = 5

U19 = 5

Can my child/player be a referee?

Absolutely!  RCYSL uses certified refs for U8 and up.  If your player is certified (or interested in becoming certified) please contact RCYSL and we will put you in touch with our referee assigner so they can start earning some cash!  We also allow "club refs" at our U4 and U6 games!

Who will my player's coach be?

New players are assigned by random draw, you may request a specific coach during the registration process but we cannot guarantee this due to roster size limits.  RCYSL will make an attempt to keep returning players with their previous coach as much as possible.

Can I choose my player's jersey number?

No, this is done at random by the vendor that makes our jerseys.  Additionally, some players may be using a jersey/number from a previous season.

How are the teams determined?

Players are grouped by age based on KYSA's guidance.

I want to be a coach; do I need experience?

Not at all!  Please contact the RCYSL board to inquire about coaching a team.  All RCYSL (to include coaching staff) must pass a background check and complete training required by the state.

How do I know what team my player is on?

This will be communicated via DemoSphere.  RCYSL holds a "meet and greet" before each season starts so players and parents can meet their coach.
